Freezing Rain and Slick Roads Plague Central U.S. as Heat Wave Takes Over East

In the central US, people might face icy roads on Monday while warmer weather is coming to the eastern part. Winter storms this month caused problems, with at least 82 people dead. Now, from Dallas to Michigan, there could be ice until Monday, and officials warn drivers to be careful.

Schools in some states canceled classes on Monday due to the weather. The National Weather Service says most places will get less than a quarter of an inch of ice, but some areas in Arkansas and Missouri might see up to half an inch.

Eastern Texas and the Lower Mississippi Valley will have rain and possible thunderstorms because warm air is moving in. Over 40 million people are under winter weather alerts, leading to road hazard warnings.

Temperatures in the eastern US will rise by nearly 30 degrees by the end of the week, bringing relief. However, heavy rain could cause flooding in the Gulf Coast and Southeast until late in the week. Around 37 million people are under the threat of flash flooding, and some areas may get 5 to 6 inches of rain.
