
A tropical depression is expected to hit Japan this week with heavy rain and strong winds.
The tropical depression is forecast to the north of the track as it slowly approaches the central Honshu of the coastline.
Some strengthening is expected, but it is likely that the tropical storm before it reaches Japan. Upon likely tropical storm status, the name Nari would have been given the tropical cyclone.
Impacts from the budding tropical storm will be limited to midday Friday through offshore areas. Round seas, gusty winds and occasional downpours should be prepared for any part of marine activities.
Surf will build along the eastern coast of Kyushu, the southern coast of Shikoku and the eastern coast of Honshu on Saturday.
The storm is expected to make landfall or the track very close to the coast of Wakayama and Mie during the first half of the weekend.
After heavy downpours, heavy rain and gusty winds will spread across central Honshu Friday night. Localized downpours will also spread over Eastern Shikoku.
The heavy rain will sweep from central to southeastern Honshu Saturday night into the storm curves eastward.
“There can be minor tree damage and areas of sporadic power outages that have wind gusts between 64 and 80 km / h (40 and 50 mph),” said Meteorologist.
Rainfall amounts of 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) with an AccuWeather Local StormMaxâ„¢ of 200 mm (8 inches) are expected from Wakayama to Nagano this weekend.
“Tokyo should escape the heaviest rainfall from this storm, but there can be downpours that lead to travel disruptions around the city,” according to Houk. “The heaviest downpours may target Tokyo on Saturday night.”
The storm will move over the open Pacific Ocean by Monday. Mostly afternoon thunderstorms erupting over parts of Japan will follow for early next week.
