Flooding And Tornado Risks Return To The Northeast US
Following Tropical Storm Ida’s devastation of the Northeast last week, which resulted in catastrophic flooding and tornadoes, a new severe weather danger is anticipated to hit the region on Wednesday.
According to The Associated Press, the former hurricane caused at least 50 deaths from Connecticut to Virginia by unleashing heavy rains that drowned basement apartments in New York City, caused homes to collapse in New Jersey, and flooded a major roadway in Philadelphia. Storms on Wednesday might stymie recovery and cleanup work in those areas. storm warnings
“A ridge of high pressure gave the region with some pretty good weather on Tuesday,” Meteorologist stated, “but [forecasters] are expecting a cold front to create showers and bigger thunderstorms in the eastern portion of the country on Wednesday.”
“The majority of these thunderstorms are likely in the big cities and near the coast from later Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night,” a meteorologist stated.
Montreal, Quebec, Albany, and New York City, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. are among the cities in the path of these storms. Severe weather could affect the entire states of Vermont and New Jersey.
According to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center, more than 65 million people are at risk of severe weather on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, light rain began to fall in areas like Montreal, but the genuinely strong and catastrophic storms aren’t expected to come until the afternoon and evening for cities further south.
“This boundary has already triggered many violent thunderstorms in the Great Lakes region,” Babinski noted. A tornado was recorded in Kendall County, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, on Tuesday, as well as many reports of destructive wind gusts and hail around the Midwest.
