Valencia received 8.58 inches (218 mm) of rain in the first three days of May, more than five times the month’s average rainfall, according to Roys. “The Valencia region has had a wet spring,” remarked the Meteorologist. Their said that the region had gotten 19.01 inches (483 mm) of rain since March 1.Even if it doesn’t rain a drop, the record will be shattered, and May 2022 will be the wettest month in the city’s history,” Meteorologist added.
The downpour swiftly flooded Valencia’s streets and even homes, with videos posted on social media showing buses trekking through streets that had turned into rivers as water sloshed into the vehicle. Floodwaters swept away a huge trash in another video. Rain forced the closure of several highways and tunnels.
Local police officials told the European news organization The Local that they had received 94 emergency calls related to the rain since 8 p.m. on May 3. Three persons were rescued by firefighters from the Valencian Provincial Consortium (CPBV) when their vehicle was stranded by water in Paterna. The CPBV also responded to 50 emergency calls related to the storm, according to the Local.
According to the Meteorological Association, areas closer to the shore, such as Camins al Grau and Penya-roja, received approximately 8 inches (200 mm) of rain on May 3. On Tuesday, the weather station in Camins al Grau reported 10.24 inches (260 mm) of rain.
