After 8 p.m. local time on Saturday, heavy rain started to fall across eastern Uganda and persisted until 7 a.m. on Sunday. Numerous settlements, including Namabasa, Busajabwankuba, Nkoma, and the Mbale industrial park, were adversely affected by the severe inundation.

After the flooding catastrophe, scenes of destroyed roads and bridges, drowned homes, and washed-away crops were typical throughout the region. Earlier this week, runoff water from the heavy rains continued to destroy farms, increasing the number of acres of agricultural damage to 5,000.

Yoweri Museveni, the president of Uganda, dispatched Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to the affected areas on Sunday to survey the damage and decide what urgent action was required.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Engineer Hilary Onek, the minister of Relief , disaster preparedness, and refugees, revealed that 14 bridges were also swept away in addition to nine cars and three motorcycles.

According to disaster surveys, the water caused at least 800 homes, three health facilities, and nine schools to be partially or completely destroyed. The URCS said that the intense rains caused thousands of people to be displaced and that over 1,000 houses in nearby areas were affected.
