Northeast Braces for Major Snowstorm

A big snowstorm is coming to the Northeast on Tuesday. It might be the largest snowfall in over two years for places like New York City.

But predicting the weather is tricky. The storm’s path could change suddenly. If it shifts even a little, it could mean more or less snow for different areas.

This storm, called a nor’easter, forms along the East Coast. It’s coming from the same big weather system that brought rain to the Gulf Coast and Southeast. Now, it’s heading north, possibly causing more flooding and storms along the way.

The heaviest snow is expected from Pennsylvania to parts of New York and New Jersey. Alerts are in place warning people about the storm.

The snow could come down really fast – as much as 2 inches per hour. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph, making it even harder to see and travel.

The storm’s path is narrow. That means places not far from each other could get very different amounts of snow. In places like New York City, where it’s been warm lately, the snow might not stick at first but could pile up quickly later.

For New York City, forecasters predict 5 to 8 inches of snow. If it gets at least 6 inches, it’ll be the biggest snowstorm since January 2022.

The storm will move towards southern New England by Tuesday. Cities like Boston could get up to a foot of snow. Boston hasn’t seen this much snow in one day for over two years.

This snowy weather is a change for the Northeast, which has been unusually warm this winter. But February often brings snowstorms like this one.

There could also be flooding along the coasts of New Jersey, New York, and New England during high tide on Tuesday.

Local officials are getting ready for the snow. New York City issued a travel advisory, urging people to stay home if they can. Schools in New York City and Boston will have remote learning or be closed on Tuesday.

The storm is causing heavy rain and storms in the Southeast. Some places might even see hail and tornadoes. Millions of people are at risk of severe weather from Mississippi to the Carolinas.

Big cities like Atlanta and Charlotte are under threat. Some areas have tornado watches, while others are on alert for flooding.

It’s important for everyone to stay safe and be prepared for the storm.
