Powerful Storm Targets Eastern US
Get ready for another powerful storm hitting the eastern half of the US, bringing blizzard conditions, severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and bitter cold. This might feel like déjà vu for many, especially in areas recently hit by a massive storm.
This new storm, originating from the Pacific Northwest, is expected to be a larger and potentially more impactful event. Starting as snow and strong winds in the Northwest, it will move towards the Four Corners region before transforming into a bigger system as it exits the Plains.
On Thursday night, the storm will strengthen, bringing heavy snow to parts of Kansas and Nebraska, extending into the Midwest. Gusty winds may lead to whiteout conditions, making travel treacherous.
At the same time, frigid air from Canada will head south, causing temperatures to drop in the north-central US. A severe thunderstorm threat is looming for parts of the South, with areas like Arkansas, eastern Texas, and northwestern Louisiana facing an enhanced risk of severe storms, including tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds.
As the storm moves east on Friday, snow will spread across more of the Midwest, with the highest accumulations expected in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Chicago might face blizzard conditions with snow and strong winds on Friday night.
Brutally cold air will grip the central and northern US, with single-digit temperatures in Omaha and possibly zero degrees in parts of North Dakota on Friday.
On the warmer side of the storm, the Southeast and mid-Atlantic will experience another round of severe thunderstorms, with a risk of damaging winds and tornadoes.
Rain will reach the mid-Atlantic and parts of the Northeast on Friday night, raising concerns for flooding, especially in areas still recovering from the last storm. Rainfall totals are expected to be similar to the previous storm, potentially causing more flooding.
The storm will hit the Northeast on Saturday morning, bringing snow and sleet, along with strong winds that may lead to additional power outages.
While the storm’s significant impacts will ease by Saturday morning in the Southeast and mid-Atlantic, the central US will continue to face brutal cold throughout the weekend and into the next week.
So, brace yourselves for another round of challenging weather conditions, and stay informed about updates and safety measures as the storm unfolds.
