Blas Tropical Storm #Blas
Since the start of the Eastern Pacific hurricane season on May 15, one catastrophic storm has roared to life in the basin. Since Hurricane Agatha’s destructive landfall in late May, most of the eastern Pacific Ocean had been devoid of dangerous tropical features, but that has changed with the formation of Tropical Storm Blas.
During the first weekend of June, US tropical forecasters initially spotted an area for potential tropical development south of Mexico, and have been closely monitoring subsequent development in the days since. Early Tuesday morning, the National Hurricane Center identified the disturbance as Tropical Depression 2-E, before upgrading it to a tropical storm about 11 a.m. EDT.
According to Meteorologist , conditions are forecast to allow steady strengthening into Thursday, and the system may potentially become a hurricane Wednesday night into Thursday.
Forecasters predict that the tropical storm will continue northwest during the week, roughly paralleling Mexico’s southwest coast.
