Flooding Threaten Millions of South in US

Stormy weather is happening in the South. There might be flooding, strong winds, hail, and maybe tornadoes until Saturday.

A lot of people in the South, almost 15 million, are under flood alerts. Even parts of Atlanta are included in these alerts until Saturday because of the storms.

Here’s what will happen in the next two days:

Friday: The stormy and flood threats get bigger
From the southern Plains to the Southeast, there will be big storms and possible flooding. This is because the same storm that caused heavy rain and hail in Texas and Oklahoma on Thursday is getting stronger and moving east.

On Friday morning, storms are already happening in Texas and other states nearby. These storms will become stronger and move east throughout the day. There will also be heavy rain, even in areas away from the storms.

There might be hail, strong winds, heavy rain, and tornadoes, especially in the afternoon and evening. A large area from Texas to Florida might have tornadoes.

Cities like Shreveport, Louisiana; Jackson, Mississippi; and Mobile, Alabama, are at risk of severe storms on Friday. Parts of Alabama and Georgia, including Atlanta, are at risk of flooding again, especially Atlanta which had flooding on Wednesday.

There could be 3 to 4 more inches of rain in Atlanta, which might cause more flooding. Other areas like Louisiana, Tennessee, and the Carolinas might get 1 to 2 inches of rain, which could cause flash floods.

Saturday: Stormy weather moves to the East
The stormy weather will move to the East on Saturday, bringing more severe storms and flooding.

The worst storms will still be in the southern US. Parts of Alabama, Georgia, and Florida might still have storms from Friday night continuing into Saturday morning.

More storms might happen in the Carolinas later on Saturday. The main risks are strong winds, flooding, and some tornadoes.

In the North, there will be heavy rain in the Great Lakes area, reaching the Northeast by Saturday afternoon. In some areas, rain might change to a mix of rain, ice, and snow, especially in the high mountains of the Northeast.

After several days of stormy weather, things will calm down in the East on Sunday, but there might still be some rain and wintry mix in New England.
