London set a new July temperature record for the entire United Kingdom on Thursday. The all-time record high is now in jeopardy with intense heat gripping England.

The heat of the core is focused on Greater London and southeast England, where temperatures have risen to 37 C (99 F) at the London City Airport. That exceeds the previous July record high for the U.K. of 36.7 C (98.1 F). The AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperature is up to 40 C (104 F).

In fact, the United Kingdom, which currently stands at 38.5 C (101.3 F) and was recorded in Faversham in August 2003

The heat kicked into full gear on Tuesday as temperatures climbed above 32 C (90 F) in London and overland areas. High dew points and intense sunshine in  Temperatures 1-2 degrees C (2-4 degrees F) higher than actual temperatures in the afternoon.

Similar temperatures have occurred in most of the locations before Wednesday. This three-day stretch of unseasonable heat will achieve heat wave status for a large portion of the United Kingdom.

The heatwave is yielding the hottest days of July and the hottest day of the summer so far.

While the most extreme heat in the southern and eastern parts of the country, Manchester can still expect a hot day on Thursday with a high near 31 C (87 F). Temperatures will climb to 27 C (80 F) in Edinburgh, while Belfast can expect a high temperature of 23 C (74 F).

The heat and send temperatures will fall to a near normal level by late July. While the relief from the heat will be welcomed by many, there will be plenty of risk and thunderstorms.

10 degrees Celsius (18 degrees Fahrenheit) low across London and southeast England following Thursday’s record-setting heat.

Most areas will escape any severe weather; However, the strongest thunderstorms are capable of producing heavy rainfall, damaging winds and hail.

These thunderstorms can also produce travel disruptions from flooding to flooded roadways.

The risk and thunderstorms will continue to rise as the storm system stalls near the region and keeps the heat at bay.
