Recent Climate El Niño’s Impact on Farming Communities
El Niño can significantly alter weather patterns.
El Niño and La Niña affect weather patterns similarly to a seesaw. The tropical Pacific ocean experiences temperature fluctuations (El Niño and La Niña). This causes the weather to change dramatically in many areas. Climate change may increase the frequency and intensity of El Niño events, according to some experts. El Niño causes significant problems, particularly in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. It exacerbates droughts, destroys crops, and makes it difficult to find water.

Farmers face significant challenges
Farmers in Africa are struggling due to El Niño conditions. There isn’t enough rain in Zambia, and crops are struggling to grow. Many people may not have enough food or water to drink. The government has declared a national emergency to assist those who are in distress.
Bad news for farming
Southern and eastern Africa’s weather is not conducive to farming. There isn’t enough rain, and it’s getting hot. This means farmers may not produce enough food. Many animals in Ethiopia are dying as a result of a five-season drought. Some places, such as Angola, are receiving more rain, but this is insufficient to address the problem in most of Africa.
Farmers are struggling.
Farmers and animal raisers are struggling to adapt to changing weather conditions. They cannot produce enough food, and their animals are dying. This makes it difficult for people to get enough food and drink. Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, and Ethiopia require assistance to cope with the bad weather. We must act quickly to help people grow food and have enough to eat.
We Need to Get Ready
We need to do something to prepare for these changes. We need to assist communities in learning new ways to make a living and growing food that can withstand the extreme weather. We also need to let people know when bad weather is coming so they can prepare. For the past ten years, we’ve helped communities deal with these issues.
To prevent things from getting worse, we must work together and stop putting so much bad stuff into the air that causes the weather to change. At the same time, we must assist those areas that are experiencing the most hardship due to inclement weather. Organizations like People in Need are working hard to address these issues.
