Recent Weather Pattern in California
Although the recent weather pattern has brought waves of rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest, AccuWeather forecasters believe that a late-week storm will bring moisture to dry Southern California.
Rain and mountain snow dropped as far south as Central California over the weekend. On Monday, the weather was a little less predictable, with only a few light rain showers and snow showers in the mountains. On Tuesday, precipitation rose throughout the coasts of Washington and Oregon, bringing 0.40 inches of rain to Eugene, Oregon; however, a much more powerful and far-reaching storm is forecast by midweek.
Like its predecessor, the next system will start with precipitation in the Northwest on Wednesday. Much of the West Coast is forecast to have rain and mountain snow by late Wednesday and into Thursday and Friday.
According to Meteorologist report, the second storm will build on a significantly more significant dip in the jet stream and bring rain to the Northwest, as well as continue southward along the coast into Southern California later this week.
The heaviest rain is expected to fall in Northern and Central California, with some rain reaching as far south as Los Angeles.
Rain and snow have been scarce in California through the first half of 2022, following a surplus of precipitation in December. Drought is affecting the whole state, with over 95 percent of the state experiencing severe drought. Almost half of California, or 47 percent, is experiencing severe drought. The wet December could be the only reason California isn’t experiencing any patches of severe drought, the worst category the US Drought Monitor can assign.
“In Ukiah, California, little over 18 inches of rain has fallen since October, which is only about half of the city’s typical rainfall during that time period,” Meteorologist explained.
