Severe Flooding in China Recent world climate News
Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces in central and southern China have been devastated by one of the biggest floods in recent memory as rivers spilled their banks on Tuesday. The deluge caused landslides that destroyed homes, while cars and crops were also destroyed by the floodwaters.
According to The Associated Press, the roaring floodwaters forced tens of thousands of people to flee across numerous provinces in southern China. According to the press report almost 500,000 dwellings have suffered damage.
It is yet unknown if there were any additional flood-related fatalities this week, but a CNN story claims that at least 32 people were killed by flooding in southern China earlier this month.
Tuesday, as floodwaters climbed to a 50-year high, authorities in China’s Guangdong province increased the area’s flood management emergency response to the highest level, closing down schools, businesses, public transportation, and docks.
