The newest tropical storm of the 2021 hurricane season formed over the eastern Atlantic on Wednesday afternoon, earning the name Victor, the season’s second-to-last designation on the initial list.

Tropical Depression 20 had been assigned to the system, which formed Wednesday morning before quickly intensifying throughout the day. By late Wednesday evening, it was a few hundred kilometers south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.

According to Recent climate Meteorologist report, conditions will be favorable for strengthening during the next few days.

“There will be a limited window for the storm to intensify into a hurricane,” metrologist said. “However, increasing wind shear and drier air will likely revert this trend, with a gradual drop of wind intensity probable later this weekend into next week.” “As it stands now, this storm will not represent a direct threat to land,” climate and weather forecasters said, referring to the Azores, a chain of islands in the Atlantic roughly 950 miles west of Portugal.

Tropical Storm Victor is expected to produce south to southwest steering breezes across the central Atlantic, according to forecasters. From this weekend into next week, these breezes will twist the system northward across the east-central region of the basin, well away from the Caribbean Islands, Bermuda, and North America.

Forecasters have been keeping an eye on two regions of disturbed weather over the eastern Atlantic, one of which is the newly developed storm.

Another area of unsettled weather, sometimes known as a tropical wave, appeared to be poorly formed as of Wednesday, a few hundred miles west of the tropical storm and several hundred miles southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Because of the lag in organization, this more western tropical wave may not develop into a tropical depression or storm.

Because this more western feature was more likely to reach the Leeward and Windward islands during the early or middle part of next week, the lack of development thus far is significant for the Leeward and Windward islands. Increased wind shear near the Leewards and Windwards might completely disrupt the storm’s progression due to the delay in formation.

“In the aftermath of Hurricane Sam, a broad area of wind shear is expected to rise up this week and continue,” Meteorologist said. At mid-levels of the sky, stiff breezes will emerge and expand from the west and southwest.

“This belt of wind shear will stretch from the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean to the central Atlantic, peaking this weekend,” Metrologist said. Any tropical feature attempting to form or move into the band of wind shear will most likely fail.

Aside from Sam, what was once Peter appears to have missed its chance to redevelop on the other side of the Atlantic. The organization of a slight swirl of clouds southwest of Peter will be monitored, but wind shear may prevent any significant evolution of the disturbance.

Over the next week, the area stretching from the Caribbean to the Atlantic coasts of the United States might be a source of danger.

One or more regions of low pressure may develop from the Caribbean through the Bahamas, and maybe as far north as the Carolina coast next week, according to early indications. This broad area of low pressure has the potential to develop into a tropical system, so keep an eye on the area. Wind shear that persists or shifts may act as a hindrance to rapid development.

A zone stretching from just off the southeastern coast of the United States to the Bahamas could be the most likely location for a system to form.

“An expected southward dip in the jet stream over the eastern United States could pick up any low pressure in the southwestern part of the Atlantic basin and guide it northward next week,” metrologist said. However, if the jet stream does not pick up this low center, assuming it develops in the first place, conditions for tropical development could improve by the following weekend.

Regardless of tropical development in the southwestern Atlantic basin, a broad zone of unsettled weather conditions with clouds, rain, and thunderstorms from the Caribbean to the Bahamas, as well as the eastern United States and coastal waters, may develop.

Wanda is the sole name left on the pre-selected list for 2021, with Victor forming in the southeastern Atlantic this week. The Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t conclude until Nov. 30
